I am a runner!

I am a runner….who ran my first race (Traverse City Cherry Festival 15K) 20 years ago, and I have been running ever since (see “lovely” photos above regarding my appearance and choice of running clothes in 1991).

I am a runner…. who on my 20th anniversary of running the aforementioned Cherry Festival  race, ran it for the sixth time and then threw a big party afterwards (see photo above regarding my appearance and choice of running clothes in 2011-time and running have been good to me).

I am a runner…. who has run about 65 races-5Ks, 10Ks, 15Ks, 25Ks, half marathons and marathons.

I am a runner…. who at the age of 43 prefers a 10 mile run to a 5K race any day, because it’s really hard to run fast.

I am a runner…. because it allows me to eat a bagel and drink a Mountain Dew in the morning with some regularity.

I am a runner…. because it feeds my sense of competition.

I am a runner…. whose greatest competition is me.

I am a runner…. who started following Christy Perros’s  training on Facebook and realized I needed to run with her.

I am a runner…. who realized after running for 20 years that you have to run with people who make you a better runner.

I am a runner….who is grateful to Christy Perros for being that person and suggesting we blog about this journey/marathon training we are on together.

I am a runner….who owes my love of running and staying in the game to one of my greatest friends and fans, she is also my aunt— Lynne Mixer.

I am a runner….who is incredibly lucky to have a husband who also runs marathons and who is going out of his way to pick up my slack around the house so that I can train for this one—the Ann Arbor Marathon.

I am a runner….whose overall marathon time has decreased by 23 minutes over the past 10 years, but whose goal time of 4:15 still eludes me.

I am a runner….who committed to going outside of my comfort zone to try a different training routine for this marathon, because as hard as it is for me to run fast and as much as I dread speed work outs, I know it will make me a better runner.

I am a runner….who is so committed to this training schedule that I enthusiastically agreed to blog about it because I know the other runners of the world will be glued to their computers, smart phones, and tablets waiting each day for the morsel of wisdom that a middle-aged marathon trainee is going to share with them and, in turn, make them better runners.

I am a runner…. who, after all, is just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.  Actually, that isn’t me.  That is Julia Roberts in Notting Hill.

I am a runner…..whose marathon goal time of 4:15:00 is NO LONGER going to elude her after June 17, 2012, which just goes to prove you can Run Older and Run Better!

I am a runner….whose mantra for this race is: DIG DEEP! TOE THE LINE! HONOR THE RACE! RUN LIKE AN ANIMAL!

I am a runner….who loves to run.

I am a runner!
